What’s the cost of following Jesus?

This content is over a year old now. Please, read this page keeping its age in your mind and realise that not all the links will work. I'm happy to hear from you if you find anything that is broken or dysfunctional, but I may or may not be able to do anything about it!

One of my Favourite lines in the From Eden to Eternity show is Andrew, having just witnessed his brother Peter step out of the boat and walk on water.  It goes something like this;

“When you follow Jesus, you’ll do things you never expect”

Sometimes I get a bit caught up and self righteous about the cost of following Jesus and being part of Wycliffe.  – Not having a salary and the security that goes with it – being unable sometimes to help people understand what it is that we do and so on.   Reality is though, my security is in God and he hasn’t let me down.  If people don’t’ understand why I am involved with the Bible Translation Movement, it is often because they don’t’ know God.  All of those things and more, if I have my wits about me, are opportunities to see God at work.  Not actually too high a price to pay.

Mary Gardner was a Wycliffe UK colleague of mine and our paths crossed of multiple occasions.  First time was actually out in Togo where she worked, I was there in the summer of ’98 as a member of the first WYnet Togo team, a very special and significant time for me.  Mary was gentle and quiet but enthusiastic about our visiting her country.  She was keen to talk to the team and share what about the work she was doing.  Then as I began to work for Wycliffe myself post uni she would always swing by to say hi n the office if she was around.   She is now home with the Lord; you can read the tragic story surrounding her death.

The cost to Mary was eventually her life.  Puts my struggles and moaning in their place. Please be praying for her family and friends at this time, it is hard to understand why God allowed it to happen at that time and at that place.

Isaiah 55:9

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
