Not being funny, i didn’t really understand what all the fuss was about.
Moving house is the most stressful thing you can do.
Like what ever. We’ve done it before it wasn’t so bad, what is the big deal? Well this time we found out. Buying a house is totally different depending on what country you are in, even Scotland does it different from England ….. So we were trying to buy the house we are currently renting…. a whole lot of house with a whole lot of money, and 4 other investors .. well that didn’t work out. after 9 months of planning and organising. So off to look at the real world, with mortgage in hand lots of hope. We stumbled across a 3 bed terrace in Chinnor a little village 4 miles from where we are now, but closer to Church, not much extra driving for the rest of work and so on. Wonderful, had an offer accepted, read and signed more paperwork than i thought was possible, paid for the mortgage company to do ‘searches’ on the house and then waited.
And 3 weeks later, we finally hear that the seller isn’t selling any more. 🙁 nothing we can do about money spent, or time spent or hassel 🙁
Back to the drawing board, viewed 6 more houses, including next door to the one that fell through. Now when the guy called me to ask if we wanted to view it my initial reaction was like NOT A CHANCE. I don’t want to live next door to the crazy lady who messed us around. But out of courtesy to the guy who had done the leg work to find us the property that wasn’t even listed with him, we went to see it. Funny thing happened. We walked in the door to find it felt bigger than the pictures on the web had shown us, ti was in better nick than the pictures had led us to believe. They had sacrificed a bit of lounge space, but had a WAY bigger kitchen, and a solid build utility room out the back of the kitchen which was awesome. upstairs was well, exactly the same as next door except they still had a bath. Bit of insulation and boarding required in the loft, but not a big job. and the best bit, it was listed at £189,950 already £2,500 cheaper than next door.
We went from there to 2 other houses in the afternoon then got on the phone and made an offer. Having done it a couple times and with the current housing market in the UK, we made and offer of £170,000 which to be honest is a little cheeky, but by the time we were done, we are buying the house for £175,000 plus £1000 for carpets. That is NOT very usual, BUT UK stamp duty law, is basically a government tax when you buy a house, the threshold is £175,000 to pay ZERO stamp duty, after that 1% (after £250K it is 4%) so the grand for carpets means we keep under the threshold, but they get their money … WOO HOO.
Over dinner as I was talking to Ali about it I was reminded of a prayer our paster had prayed on the phone when i told him the other one had fallen through. the prayer
“Oh God, give them a better house for less money” And that is exactly what we feel we have got! Isn’t God Amazing!
YES house moving can be stressfull at times!
